Frittering at head & tail and 4 corners has been restored; covers and top edge re-coloured; all pages uniformly yellowed. Provenance : on front end paper the name and address of J A Raubenheimer, who with his brother Hendrik used Cornell’s book to prospect over much of the same ground as Cornell and found many interesting mineral deposits in Namibia and the Richtersveld of S Africa. Many pencil lines in margins where Raubenheimer found significant interest. JAR discovered an silicified alluvial deposit of what he called Picture Stone, which he exported to China. He also discovered many Kimberlites. Complete with 24 b&w photo plates and a fold map. xiv plus 334 pages. At least 7 other publishers have offered this book, some still in print. The book is a classic; the subject is of great interest, and this English printing is the true first. There was an American edition in the same year. VERY rare in this edition. Covered in archival plastic.
