DALI

R375.00

This book is a tribute to two great Spanish personalities of our century, the painter Salvador Dali and the writer Ramon Gomez de la Serena.

When Ramon Gomez de la Serna undertook a study of Salvador Dali, Dali himself promised to illustrate the text with original drawings. Unfortunately, the death of the writer in 1963 prevented the project from being realized until recently, when the study, almost complete, was discovered posthumously among his papers. Dali kept his word and this magnificent book is the result.

Supported by other writings, photographs, and illustrations, Dali is made up of three sections. The first of these is largely composed of the essay and the drawings, with a note by the Spanish scholar Sebastiano Grasso on Ramon Gomez de la Serna, and a chronology which charts the life and works of the surrealist artist. The second section contains more than 80 color reproductions of Dali’s works shown in their entirety and in detail. The third section contains an informative note by Eleonora Bairati on the Dali Theater Museum of Figueras, with color photographs of the amazing shrine erected by the painter to himself, and a fascinating interview with Dali by Baltasar Porcel, illustrated with photographs of the artist at his home in Port Lligat. In addition, excepts from Dali’s own writings illuminate his extraordinary life and work from his love for his wife, Gala, to his interpretation of Millet’s Angelus. The book concludes with an index of the works reproduced in the second section, with a small black and white photo of each work illustrated.
