VOL I : Has 18 sheets (36 pages) stained in the margins by a stubborn mould (?) and 2 pages which have been lightly stained by bleeding from the illustration opposite. xv plus 427pp. VOL II : – 4 sheets (8 pages) stained by mould and a few water stained for a cm or less along the top edge. xii plus 420pp incl 2pp Classified Bibliography; 9pp Glossary and 24pp Index for both vols. There is no common foxing, no signs of previous use, no ownership marks. This is a fascinating work with so much historic background on the mores of the times; not just for the antique dealer but anyone who wants to learn about the furniture available pre-1900s and how it developed, how made, timbers used, reasons for changes in styles and fashions etc. Enables the dedicated person to recognize truly valuable antiques from modern reproductions.
