Reduced facsimile reproduction of the 1875 edition with new Foreword, and case design adapted from a cover of the 1868-71 serialised vesion in which the work first appeared.
Dust jacket is slightly scuffed at head and tail. Book has sello-tape staining on free end papers, 3 pieces on front and 2 on rear between 5 and 7cm long, otherwise unmarked. Top edge is lightly coloured green as is usual , but has bled slightly into the pages to a maximum depth of 1.5mm over 14 sheets, both front and rear. End papers illustrated in monochrome. Boards have silver titles and illustrations. Frontis plus 14 b&w plates; numerous sketches throughout text: all complete.
