” Preface
This bulletin replaces Bulletin No. 247 which is now out of print. It is evident that the concern of the general public over the damage caused by various wood-boring beetles has been fully aroused and a very great interest in the biology and control of these insects in now being shown.
The recent publication of regulations for combating and preventing the spread of insect pests affecting timbers has contributed in no small measure to focussing this interest, still more sharply and has greatly stimulated the demand for information.
In this bulletin, the opportunity has been taken to revise the information contained in the previous publication. Certain chapters have been enlarged and the whole brought up to date by the inclusion of results of recent experimental work. “
