FOREWARD

Too often, in the community in which we live we take for granted certain activities or establishments which to outsiders are of tremendous interest and significance.

Thus it was with the Pullman Motor Car Company in the City of York. At the time it was in full operation it was accepted as part of the community, with scarcely a second thought. But to people in other places , and other times, it was a marvellous blending of men, skill and materials in such surprising quantity and quality that York, Pennsylvania, under slightly different circumstances, might easily have become the Detroit of the East.

The story of the Pullman Automobile has been brought back to us, in all its true significance, with the cooperation of a team of historians, technicians, interested citizens and former employees of the company.
