Hanzak’s expert text and 45 full colour plates complete a book which is among the fullest pictorial surveys of world bird life ever produced.

Bird enthusiasts these days no longer restrict their interest to birds of their own country. This book describes species from all parts of the world, the South American Rheas, the Indian Lagger, the Australian Cockatoos. the Kiwis of New Zealand, these are only a tiny fraction of the species that can be found.

The text has been edited by Bruce Campbell, an ornithologist who broadcasts regularly on nature topics and the material on the American species was prepared under the supervision of Ned. R. Boyjian, consultant to the American Museum of Natural History. Dr. Campbell has also written the the Foreword which describes the modern system of bird classification and how this has come about.

An informative introduction, discusses the evolution of birds and the features and characteristics which make them so interesting. There is also a comprehensive index to both common and scientific names. The species are arranged in their scientific groups and every bird described is illustrated, making this a most valuable reference work as well as being a book to read and enjoy.

The Pictorial Encyclopedia of Birds is a book not only for the bird watcher, be he novice or expert, but for anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature.
