SCOTTISH RAILWAYS
R259.00
Scottish Railways offers a comprehensive account of the railways of Scotland from the time of their construction and deals with railways in all their aspects, their history, their use in Scottish industry, commerce and sport, passenger train services, the great scenic routes, engineering, traffic control and locomotive working in Scotland.
It was first published eleven years ago and it would be difficult to imagine a period in which greater changes have taken place, the Modernisation Plan has been launched, lines have been electrified, many diesel locomotives and trains are running, and great new marshalling yards are either completed or well under way.
Opportunity has been taken, therefore, to revise completely those sections of the book dealing with modern equipment and operating, a completely new chapter has been added dealing with Modern Express Freight Services, and the Appendices have been brought fully up to date. The author has had the valuable help of officials of the Scottish Region of British Railways. As a professional engineer he was fortunate enough to be associated with much of the new work already completed and in course of construction, and in this, as on other occasions where he was a privileged observer, he has met and worked with Scottish railwaymen of all grades.
