CHANGE IN SOUTH AFRICA

R153.19

It has been clear for a considerable time that the policy of separate development as visualized in 1948 and for a period thereafter, will have to be changed. A number of changers have already been made and are taking place in the political, economic, social, labour, educational, and sport spheres, and it became necessary to describe and analyze not only these changes, but also their determinants.

Each of the contributors to this book has concentrated on one of the above aspects and also attempted to find answers to questions such as:

  • Do the changes create a more just society in South Africa?
  • Do the changes take the aspirations of Blacks, Coloureds, and Indians into account?
  • Are the changes sufficient to counteract violent conflict and revolution?
  • Are the expectations being raised which cannot be realized?
  • What implications do the changes have for South Africa’s foreign relations?

This publication will eventually prove to be of important historical value as it gives a picture of the South African situation at a particularly interesting time.
